Bookcase // Guitar Holder
Junior Certificate Woodwork Project
2011

Description

  • Brief: Design and manufacture an elegant free standing artefact that reflects your interest in music and holds a small number of books
  • Period Active: January - July 2011

In 2011 I was introduced to the design and manufacturing world with a very vague Junior Certificate Woodwork brief.

"Design and make a free standing artefact to hold a small number of your favourite books. The artefact should be designed to display personal items that reflect your interest in music and also to allow the titles of the books to be easily visible. The design should be elegant in proportion and be attractive to behold. "

At the age of 16 I took this opportunity to manufacture the bookcase/guitar holder displayed below.

A separate mould had to be manufactured for each laminated section. Each laminate consisted of 3 layers of flexy-ply overlaid with an ash veneer. The laminates were then slotted into the mahogany piece using halving joints.

I received an A1 grade for this project.
